The fourth installment in the Newark Rhythms Visual Arts Lecture Series.


Alan Ruiz is an artist whose work explores the way space is produced both as material and as ideology. He has exhibited at the Queens Museum, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, The Kitchen, Callicoon Fine Arts, TG, Nottingham, and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. His writing has been featured in Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory, Millennium Film Journal, TDR, BOMB Magazine, ED, Archinect, and InVisible Culture, among others. Ruíz received an MFA from Yale University and was a fellow in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. He is a recipient of a Creative Capital award.

The Newark Rhythms Visiting Artist Lecture Series 2019-20 is co-presented with Express Newark + Shine Portrait Studio + ACM, the Department of Arts, Culture + Media.
